Paris

The city of romance, has so much to offer that you'll really struggle to fit it in to just one weekend break. There are wonderful museums like the Louvre, and Musee d'Orsay, there's the 320m high world famous Eiffel Tower and the stunning Arc de Triomphe plus the beautiful Notre Damn cathedral and the Basilique du Sacre-Coeur. Not to mention Disneyland Paris just a 35 minute bus ride away. Night fall brings a whole range of different attractions including the Eiffel tower in lights, the romantic river boat cruises along the seine and of course the famous Moulin Rouge where you can enjoy a spectacular mix of modern and traditional Parisian entertainment.

Shopping

  • Paris is as much overloaded with shopping as it is culture, being the birthplace of couture it boasts the showcase stores of the top designers from around the world, but these are just a fraction of the shopping possibilities that the French capital has to offer. There are wonderful specialist boutiques, and excellent department stores like Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, plus top quality family run food shops. For any dedicated bargain hunters there are an abundance of weekend flea markets where haggling is a must.

Most shops are open Monday to Saturday from 10am -7pm and although not as popular as in the UK Sunday shopping is no longer frowned upon.

Eating Out

  • With over 10,000 cafes you will never struggle to get a drink in Paris, though there are a few café customs that are handy to know in advance, it is more expensive to drink on the terrace than inside, and more expensive to drink at a table than at the counter. It may also be more expensive after 10pm when a tariff de nuit may be imposed. Unless otherwise stated, coffee is served as a small strong espresso. Tipping is not compulsory and usually a few coins in the dish is adequate for good service.

The important thing to remember about eating out in Paris is that meals are served at meal times, though most cafes serve sandwiches round the clock if you're looking for something more substantial go to restaurants or bistros at Lunch time or dinner time and you won't be disappointed. A service charge is included in the bill so tipping is only necessary for exceptional service.
